Re: Macca at Work
This is a fine environmental portrait.
I am a bit surprised that it has gone all this time, even though it has only been less than 24 hours, with out any comments.
I like how you placed him in the frame, it focuses your onto him first then lets your eye wander around to see the rest of the photograph.
My only suggestion would be to burn in the sign on the right, it is a bit too hot.

Re: Macca at Work
Nice choice, Brian. I agree, it's a wonderful environmental portrait. Exposure is good, the background says something important about the subject, and the composition works really well. I can't even think of anything to criticize! But I'll be back to give it another shot

Re: Macca at Work
This I would call a typical quick and well composed grab shot using available light. The loss of detail in the background due to uneven lighting is a problem. I would have experimented with a slave flash behind the counter on a fractional setting to even off the lighting. I would have also photoshopped out the stuff on his left shoulder.

Ronnoco,,,,I didn't have the time to set up any lighting equipment...I had 30 seconds to compose the shot and shoot..

Well, as I said, a quick and well-composed grab shot. Candid photography is never perfect. The stuff "on" his shoulder could still be taken out.

Re: Macca at Work
Good tones, composition and a nice candid smile make for a great photo. I would definitely give this to your friend.
I think brian made a great point about burning in the sign, allows it to blend a bit more with the background and not compete with his shirt. Other than that, a wonderful photo.
cheers.
