    Smile insurance

    Hi,

I have just bought a Canon 350D with lenses. I want know what is the best way of insuring your camera equipment.
Im still living at home, and we have home and contents insurance, but once i move out, (renting) i want it to be still covered by insurance.

Does anyone from Melbourne, Australia know any good companies that insure photographic equipment.

    Any advice would be great.

    Hi shutterbug182,

I have all my gear insured as a seperate writer on my homeowners insurance. Once you move out, will you have renters insurance? If so, I'm sure you can add all your gear to the policy to make sure it's covered. It cost's me about $10 for every $1000 worth of gear per year. It isn't insured for business use tho. So if I were shooting a wedding and something happended to my gear, it's not covered.

Hi Shutterbug, I agree with Michael, I've got all my gear, my bag, my tripod, my lenses, everything for about the same $10 per $1000/yr. Of course, Australia may be a little different, but you can usually get some sort of "rider" on your homeowners or renters insurance, as I have had my music gear, ham radio gear, my computers and my wifes wedding ring, on riders for years, both homeowners and renters.

It's also called an insurance floater - where I live, anyway. I have my wife's engagement ring, etc. on one, and my camera gear on another.

As for insurance companies, is Trexis a good one? I found a lot of reviews in the web, but I would like to check real feedbacks here. I also found a good service with the contacts of Trexis https://trexis-insurance.pissedconsu...r-service.html , will save it.
