    Shadow Boxing

allow me to preface this post by saying I AM NOT A PHOTOGRAPHER! i leave that to Pop. i am simply a momma that takes pics of her little one. i caught him facinated by his shadow the other day and grabbed the camera. like i said, i'm not a photographer, but i'd really like to take some good pics of jack. any tips, advice, etc. is very welcome. oh, my name is stephanie and i really hope this doesn't bias your opinion of me, but i'm old timer's oldest... ;)

Welcome Stephanie. Stop using that disclaimer. This shot of Jack is terrific. I guess Jack has an eye for light and shadow too.
It's fun watching little ones figuring out the world around them and finding out what they can control. Your well timed shot will bring a lot of memories to a lot of us.
    Frame this one for Grandpa.

This thing about not being a photographer is just in your mind. From the first time you picked up your little Holley Hobbie camera you were a photographer. As you know Stephanie it has been a dream of mine that one of my kids would get the photo bug. Looks like you may be the one to take up the challenge. Although your brother David's pictures of his recent Africa trip were pretty impressive. At any rate welcome to Veiwfinder hope you are here for a long time and continue to post lots of pictures. You know I can't get enough of Jack.

Don't forget about the Gallery. Are your photos there??

Welcome, Stephanie, and you blow that mis-conception about not being a photographer with this shot. This is absolutely adorable. Great use of light and shadows and composition. Besides, having just met your dad the other day, I can tell you that you have no choice about being a photographer. It's in the genes, girlfriend. ;)

Thanks everyone. I appreciate the kind comments!

Chunk: I'm step ahead of you...I already have a print for Dad!

Dad: I hope I can make you proud! I know Dave and Sarah are naturals, but I'll give it my best shot. It's easy with Jack around 24/7.

Srobb: That's really cool that you got to meet Dad. He's a pretty cool guy most of the time. ;) We've been surrounded my photographs all of our lives as you can imagine. Looking through my photo albums from when I was a baby is always such a joy--the pics are great as you can imagine. I want Jack's to be just as wonderful.

Don't say you're not a photographer. As soon as you push that button, you're a photographer. And judging from this photo, you've got an eye for it. This is an important moment and and interesting look into a developing mind. Sure - composition, setup, and exposure might be better. But that's all stuff you can work on. What you can't as easily work on is the ability to notice and the urge to record a moment like this. Accept the gift that comes with the love for your child. Embrace it and allow yourself to be a photographer. Capture the moments and things that move you. Try to improve a little tiny bit with each photo. And let us help you along.

Welcome Stephanie...We all have to start somewhere...and you obviously get the "genes" from a good source...hehe...I remember some of my beginning conversations with your dad about grandkids as I have two about the same age as Jack.
Good luck and look forward to watching you grow in your photography!!!

    I agree with Photo-John...once you press a shutter you're a photographer.

Plus...your image is perfect as it captures a precious moment and is well executed.

Lovely photograph and I hope you take more of your muse!!

From what I saw in this shot and knowing who your dad is, I don't think you will have a problem. I don't have kids, but I have become the official photographer of my great-niece. No telling how many rolls I have of her and she just turned 1 last month.
