    Re: blueberries

Since the title is "blueberries", I guess the subject is blueberries. They (the blueberries)dont' strike me as being the center of attention; maybe due to the samll size, or maybe due to placement in the frame, or maybe because they are competing with the BG.

I do like the rich blue color of the berries. Thanks for posting.

I like the concept, but as Pheebs put it, my attention does not go straight to the berries. Perhaps if you crop off those leaves it'll fix this small problem.

    Hi Seb,
The pic delivers a big question of life and death. The living berry and the dead leave in the same stalk. The sharp berry is shadowed by the blurry leaves. What a big question to us?

    Re: blueberries

Seb, I like your composition here and I feel it IS about the Blueberries. The large tree trunk in the bg serves as a good contrast to the relatively small berries and branch. The bg is flat enough in color, lighting, and out of focus just enough to stay in the bg and serve as a fine backdrop. Also like the edge of the tree included to the right. The berries are sharp and exposed well and the blue color stands out nicley from the drab bg. Yoyo has pointed out another aspect that i had not thought about in his way, but found interesting nevertheless, and that is the dead leaves at the bottom of the branch. This is not a composition that hits you on the head with an immediate wow factor, but rather one that after looking at for some time allows one to appreciate the fine , subtle qualities of the scene and the thought that went itno its composition. Good work

    Re: blueberries

    Hi Seb,

It seems to me that this is a carefully composed photo but I cannot get the message about life and death rightaway when I look at the image, not until people mention it. If the message is about life and death, then to me the lighting doesn't help too much to illustrate or dramatise the message.

    Just a thought.

    Cheers,

    Alex

    Re: blueberries

    Hello everyone,

Thank you very much for taking the time to comment.

I'd just like to point out one thing though. I now realise that the title created expectations that the picture might not hold but this title was simply me lacking imagination to find something more interesting.

This picture isn't really about blueberries to me, it's about a scene that draw my attention as a whole. I don't know if this can actually contribute to your appreciation of the photograph (or if it simply spoil it) but I thought that I should clarify this.

    best regards

    Seb

    Hi Seb,

I know it's been several days since you posted this, but I'm new to the group and have been enjoying catching up. This one looks like a painting to me. I didn't get the life and death thing others are talking about, but I do like how the blueberries are really the only color. I also like how the tree bark has little knob shapped protrusions that kind of continue the pattern of the blueberries. My only complaint is the edge of the tree on the right. I think if you cropped that out, the tree would be less identifiable, and the texture of the bark would create more of an abstract background pattern to sort of support the blueberries. That may not be what you where going for, but that's what I see. I like it.

    Kudos,
    Paul

    Hello Paul,

Thank you for commenting. I truly appreciate your detailled review.

You bring a truly interesting point with the edge of the tree. This is something that I have been pondering myself for quite some time before submitting this. I wasn't sure if I wanted to go for something quite abstract or if I wanted to make it obvious that it was a tree. Ultimately, I am still not sure nowaday lol.

regards and welcome on the board

    Seb
