Scanning old family Photos

I have come into possession of some old family photos. I have an Epson V30 and am using Photoshop CS3. I know how to do a little levels and sharpening, but does anyone have any other ideas on how to restore these images?

Re: Scanning old family Photos

If you had any samples scanned in we could help ya out better. I've been in the process of collecting/digitalizing all the family photos that we and extended family have. I've gone through everything from scanning prints from the late 1800s through slides my dad took in the 80s.

Most of the time all I've needed to do was some levels, sharpening and cropping. Some of the slides from my grandparents needed a fair amount of photoshop work since they had a complete magenta cast. Let us know if you need any help/tips for them!

Re: Scanning old family Photos

I'd spend some time over at Operation Photo Rescue's Forums. These guys are volunteers that started helping victims of Katrina repair and restore photos damaged by water and God knows what else. They've done some amazing work and you can really learn a lot over there.
