    My Daughter

I shot this with my E-510 and 50mm f/2.0 lens. So far this is my favorite portrait shot I've taken with this lens. Of course I'm biased towards the subject. I like it because there are lots of details. You can see the ink on her hand, a little cut on her cuticle, a speck of food on her lip, the blanket over her head and the teddy bear hidden underneath. You can also get a good feel for the color of her eyes which is difficult to capture. They are primarily a greyish blue with a circle of yellow around the iris.

I can see why potrait photographers like to have their subjects put their hand on or near their face. It makes for a more interesting photo but most times it looks posed to me. I didn't tell my daughter to do anything with her hands I just managed to capture her like this.

I'd love an honest opinion from everyone on this photo. Please tell me what you think and how it could have been improved.

She is beautiful.....I am not a pro or a critic....and I love the shot....but just a thought, maybe you shouldn't have cut off the top of her head? But the photo works for me....very realistic...

    Re: My Daughter

Thanks for all the compliments on my daughter. I think she is very cute and beautiful too, but I am completely biased.

That is an excellent point about cutting off the top of her head. Working with the 50mm lens is tricky. It renders a lot of detail, which is nice, but since it's really a macro lens, you need a lot of room to compose a portrait.

I think a 25mm might be better for candid portraits.

I have ordered the 50mm 1.4....but haven't received it yet....so I know what you mean about the distance thing, because I am using my 85mm 1.8....

That should be an awesome lens. Be sure to post some photos when you get it.
