Oh, yeh, I like it - all of it. It's like music. What I really like is that there is one place in the all those differnt patterns that's empty. You chose a good way to compose this.

That's cool...It almost looks like two different pictures put alongside each other. Nice job filling the frame, using repeating patterns, contrast, shadows, etc...Great technique.

    DownbyFive and Chunk,

Thanks for the repsonses. I like how there is such a harsh contrast, yet it's still the same subject. If your intrested, it was a close up of a bridge support. Thanks again.

I like how you've arranged the overlap of the buttress plates in the proportion to the frame.

I took an inspection series on bridges where some things like this appeared and the next thing I knew the structural and bridge engineers immediatley wanted to know, right now, where they were. They weren't photo fans, they didn't want the bridge to undergo failure.

Its not necessary but this image might look real cool by tweaking the contrast way up or down. Pattern type photos lend themselves to all kinds of manipulation for those like kind of thing.

    Good shot as it is!

Jared, good catch. Nice shadows and contrast. good job framing this up with the line off center.
I was not surprised to see Chunk liking this! Just his type of thing. Good work

this is a great shot~i love the contrast between the two repeating patterns, and the shadows are just right to make the picture more interesting and it gives me a feel of connecting the two different patterns together.

Only more so. :D I wish I could have experienced this through a viewfinder. Jared, if this bridge is nearby and you feel like taking more shots of it, here's a couple more compositions I would have tried. One would have the view rotated so that the shadows were vertical. Another would have neither shadows nor bolt pattern square to the frame. They may not work in this case because our brains know that gravity made those great rust stains and may not accept the image rotated. It would make it feel 'edgier' at the least.

    Hey Jar_e,

What I really like about this on is the combination of the earth tones and sky tones superimposed with structural steel. In fact, my first thought was to rotate it 90 degrees to the right so that it kind of had a landscapy feel. The only problem with this is the rust-drip patterns would be all off.

Yes, the contrast works well Jared.
The color, the painted vs the rusted.
There are some interesting lines here too.
The lines from the shadow, the lines created by the screws and bolts, not to mention the pattern. Other lines, are from the rust stains, as well as the line dividing the two sections, which creates a little tension.
If there is more to the frame, I'd make sure that last row of bolts is complete or crop it out.
The pattern of the white paint, flows well too.
From what I have seen of you, I think this is your photograph.
    Great Eye!

Great job of making something that could be boring, very interesting. As does everyone else, I absolutely dig the contrast, the lighting, the clarity and the sharpness.
Great interpretation and I love how you framed this.

I agree that it has the look of 2 seprate shots just spliced together. I think the best feature are the shadows. They lend a certain depth to to the image.

    Almo,

Thanks for the comments. I just loved the shadows on this. And this picture without the shaodws I believe would be quite trivial and boring. Thanks for the words.

How about the chipped paint on the left or the bleeding rust on the right? There are too many great elements on in this shot that eliminating one could take a little tiny bit off its beauty. But don't kid your self the beauty of this shot is that SO many things came together :D and yes the shadows are just one of those, Great shot man.
