    Night Shot..River/Canyon..Take 672
Well, I thought I would give it another round. This is a different river and almost a full moon this time. I read through your critiques from my last attempt and just wanted to give a belated thanks to all that re-responded to it. So lets here it..

I should have waited around for this fog to roll in closer, problem was I didn't know it was there until I got home..Another reason why I am finding this type of shooting fun and interesting. With the low light, you really don't know whats out there until you see it on the monitor after processing.

    Thanks once again..

The lighting is almost so good I can't tell it is night time. I looks too like I see movement in the trees. Camera motion or wind?

Thanks Greg. The wind was blowing about 15-20mph.I had it mounted on a tri-pod w/cable release but the winds were killing me. I tried maxing out the ISO to compensate for a shorter exposure but there still is some wind blur. These canyons are a funnel for the wind around here. One of these days it will all come . No wind, mixed clouds, full moon, white water and why not throw in a meteor shower :). Lately its been one or the other. I just need them to all happen at once now.

Really nice shots. Looks like you nailed the exposure spot-on.

    Thanks Joe.
Armando, I think that streak in the sky is from an airplane that had flown over a few minutes before and the white streak it left is slowly falling apart. or it could be just a cloud?

    Thanks for the replys

Excellent work. The last is my favorite. Very painterly in feel (due to what seems to be tree movement).

I love the shots. I wonder though, how making them look old with some sepia would make them? Give them a more western feel perhaps?

    Thanks again for the reply's.
I wont be happy until I get that shot I have embedded in my mind, but not yet accomplished. I'm getting closer , that's a good thing. I try and take advantage of the area that I live in with the clean air and crystal clear sky. The shot I want and hope to get is a thunder/lighting storm,on full moon, at the river with lighting traveling from the top of the sky to the bottom. I have seen it like that twice in the last 8 years here. Last year was one of them and at the time I didn't have the camera to capture it..and boy did I try, man that was frustrating. Nothing like standing on the edge of a river in a thunder storm with a camera on a metal tri-pod with 1100 lighting strikes over your head in 45 minutes and seeing 60 foot pine trees splitting in half close enough to feel the ground shake. Yeah I know not to smart...but I tend to live life a little adventures or on the edge as some say. Either or it was a memory of a lifetime and I cant wait for the next one:idea: It would be great to capture so others could feel the thunder in the photo.
byjamesderuvo, thats a great idea..feel free if you want at it.

    Thanks again

Cool photos. I think the most successful ones are where the stars are actually visible. Reminds me of Rene Magritte's God's Salon.
