Alone in the Woods
Taken today at a model shoot. Not sure if I should crop in any farther .. I think it would work both ways. C&Cs welcome,

Re: Alone in the Woods
My inexperienced two cents: I find the immediate and distant background distracting -- maybe because the model is in neutral colors -- except for her nail polish. To me, your exposure on the model is good, but I don't especially care for her pose here. Your other model shots upstage this one, IMHO.

Re: Alone in the Woods
Thanks for the critique Paula. Besides the obvious issue of skill of the photographer, there's a lot of factors that go into creating great images of models. With the high rise model, she is semi professional and a MUA work on her for 1- 1.5 hrs beforehand. We also controlled the lighting quite well with the strobes. On location you can still do all this but it's a tad harder. The pose was my idea BTW as I was trying various stuff. I need to post some more shots of her that I took, if I can find the time to edit them !! :D

Re: Alone in the Woods
Perhaps a little distance between the model and the tree would have helped take a little of your controlled light off the tree. Which might have helped separate the subject from the backround.
You can try adding a little bit of contrast by adding "blacks" to the photo, but the backround is still on the overexposed side. The only real way to counter that is to meter and set your lighting to match your backround(or whatever effect you desire for the matter), and then adjust your camera accordingly. Typical it is best done with your model in the shade(which it looks like you are), but the lighting needs to be bumped a little higher so that you can use a fast shutter speed/higher f stop.
Cheers!

Re: Alone in the Woods
I agree with the above and deffinately move her away from the tree or make the pose use the tree.

Re: Alone in the Woods
Thanks for the comments. There was very bright sunlight that day and we used the tree to block the sun. I therefore had to over expose the background a bit, but .. Sometimes that can create a wild effect. I think the fill flash does show on the tree, however.
