Thunder Clouds and Reflection

One more from the last storm. What do you think? Any advice is good advice.

Prefer 1 more than 2 as the sky looks more threatening and ominous wonder if reducing the high lights would bring more detail into the blown out area behind the tall pine.

the first one, definitely. very cool.

I think I prefer number two. With all of the detail in the trees and reflection. Maybe layer the shot and take a touch of orange/yellow out of the trees? Nice work on them all.

That first one has what it takes to be an interesting and dynamic photo worth featuring. The reflections in the smooth still water are pleasing. the ominous sky bringing a sense of tension and eye candy as well with the vibrant colors and lighting. I like the sense of balance and flow of the composition.
The second version is just too over exposed and loses much because of that. The last two I just don't feel have anything other than a great cloud formation. The foreground areas in both versions have a over processed look about them which I'm not sure why.

I like the first one the most. The others look over-processed to me. I don't want to think about process when I look at a photo. If I find myself thinking about how it's been processed, that means it's been overdone. Process should never distract from content. I can see you used HDR processing in all of these. But all but the first one just have too much of that HDR look.

Content and composition in that first one are great. The shoreline has a nice receding line that draws me into the image and that bright spot in the sky catches my attention and gets me to start looking at the sky detail. I think that first one is a very worthy Featured Photo for this forum. Congratulations :)

Sorry for the late response, been up in the Sierras on a hiking trip. Thanks a lot guys. I never thought I would see one of my photos in the Featured Photo section.
I realized after my first response from hminx that I goofed up. I thought I had only posted the first picture in my post. After seeing all of them later I figured it was too late to take the bad ones out after people had already viewed the post, so I left them. I'm glad I did, its great to hear what you all had to say. I really appreciate all the great advice you guys have given me. It has helped me tremandiousely.

WOw, beautiful colors and a nice rustic area to shoot at. I think the top two are more complete photographs than the bottom two, which have potential but area somewhat lacking in foreground interest. Looks like a lot of noise or processing in the sky there, too. The upper shots are just great. Good exposure.
