Sombrero

This was a surprise to me and it was not staged or manipulated at all. Among the ruins of the burned factory there was this pretty untouched straw hat.

Maybe it burned the fellow down to nothing and only left his hat ?? (hope not).

It works for the most part - nice contrast between the hat and background. The shot's a little soft,.. really no excuse for that in such a static shot where a tripod or faster SS could have been used (but carrying a tripod is sometimes so limiting ...)

Interesting image which makes one ask what the story is.
I agree its a bit soft and think maybe a wider view would make it seem even stranger.

definitely a mysterious image, i like it, though i would've prefered it had it been darker it works as is, just lacks the point of pointing it out in my opinion. if u hadn't disclosed the info, i don't think it would be apparent. so, i think a much darker image might have done better.

This is superb, a bit less exposure in the hat and a bit sharper as others have stated, but the composition and angle are excellent.

However the slight unsharpness add a bit of mysterious feel, maybe a bump map or sharpen and + Orton effect could enhance it a bit.

As others have said, a little soft & I would like to have seen it wider, I think the contrast would have been even more powerful.

As it is, it evokes many questions and draws the viewer into the picture, which is great.

One thing I've learned on a subject like this is that I should shoot multiple shots from different angles, different focal lengths, different DOF's etc......in other words play a little. More times than not you will get some shots that don't work at all and some that just POP.........thinking about what works or doesn't work really is educational.

This is a great example of an awesome subject.
