Prairie Panorama (link, not attachment)

I stitched together 5 images for this panoramic (posted in the gallery area, here is the link:

Let me know what you think! It needed a ton of clean-up. Part of it had to do with some nasty gnats that were buzzing around. In the original they looked like birds inthe distance! :)

I can C that you put alot of work into this Photo , Fabulous sky , the hole photo realy gives you the sense of what the prairies are all about. At first glance i did not like the right hand side but on closer examination it really belongs with the rest of the photo . The road realy gives your photo some great dept. So i have to say that you did a great job with this one :)

It's a good panorama with no evidence of joins. Personally I would prefer to see a little more prairie and a little less sky. But your take on it is a good idea.

You did a great job. I like the great expanse of sky and think you have the proportions about right. This needs to be seen in print, I think, to be fully appreciated. I sometimes have to stop while driving through Illinois to try and capture that dramatic prairie sky but haven't been as successful as this.

Marty, looks good to me. I like the expansive sky with all the clouds and the slight bit of land at the bottom, with a scattering of elements to peer at brings me the feel of the prairie.

Knight: I agree. The road is the anchor of the shot IMO.
Tom: That is generally how I shoot the prairie. I have experimented some with lower angle shots with more land, but I think those will be better when the crops are starting to come in than this time of year...
Chunk: You have to pick your days right. When there are fluffy clouds that give the sky depth it is best. Too often we have flat grey or brilliant blue with no depth.
Gary: The feeling that I felt the first time I drove down I-57 from Chicago to Champaign is what you are describing and what I was aiming for. I'm glad that it seems to have worked! :)

I can't find anything wrong with this photo. I personally would of tried to get more ground into the photo, but the clouds real make it photo special.

Thanks again everybody. It is good to know that this is as special as I thought it was when I finished the stitching! (Man that word just looks wrong! Too many consonants or something! :) )

Oh, and the other panos were from other folks. I just posted it to that category in the gallery... :)

I can only imagine how much work it must have been.
I too like how you put that much sky in this. I have that same tendency myself.
Not sure what to add beyond whatelse has been said.

Splats: I used the Photomerge Panorama option in Photoshop Elements 4.0. I tried the Photostitch program that came with my Digital Rebel, but it came out horribly! I had to do some cloning around a couple of the joins and I had to perform the merge twice because the first time it didn't line up the horizon right at one of the joins (there was a steep drop-off, something you just don't see here in Central Illinois! :) ) All in all it worked very well!

I love the sky Marty. The blue is so vibrant I love how you can see the clouds are going off into the distance giving a feeling of depth. I would never even imagined it was 5 images put together. You did an awesome job!

Theres nothing I can add that everyone else hasn't already stated. I've only tried a few stitches and haven't been able to get any to work. I searched pretty hard for your stitches and couldn't find any!!!! Great capture, great work!!!!
