Self-Portrait
Self-Portrait I took a little while back...a friend helped me stand on my mark, but everything was set up prior to wraping my face....you can't see it, but I have a cable release in my left hand.

Have you considered submiting this to some record labels?
I don't think you have to always show a physical reperesentation of someone for it to tell us something about that person...a self-portrait should not just be a physical representation of ones self, it should tell us something about who you are or might be....thanks for the feed back.

I agree very much with this, but the thing that, for me, separates this from a true portrait is the lack of feeling. It is a somewhat cold image for me. Please do not misunderstand, I really like this image, but for a portrait I want to feel something of ones soul, and I just can't get that here. I am not one who believes that one should have to be staring down the eyes of the subject, but I do believe that you should be able to feel the subject.
Here is a selfportrait that I feel makes my point:

Thank you for hearing my opinion, for that is all it really is...:)

No worries....I love the debate.

Re: Self-Portrait
I like it alot, and can't express why. I agree about submitting to some record companies though!

Re: Self-Portrait
great idea, and great color tone.
only thing is that folding of your arms stand out oddly. I think it is due to effort to conceal the cable release in your hands.
overall, great idea and execution.

Re: Self-Portrait
Weirdarama! The image works as it is just the kind of thing I like. It has appeal and at the same time conveys mystery. The lighting goes well with this composition. Well done.

I think that this is an excellent self-portrait, it just works for me. There's a wide variety of possible meanings behind such a photograph. It displays your funky imagination at the very least which speak a little about yourself, thus its efficiency as a self portrait.
As for submitting it to a records company, it's kind of late, The Mars Volta's (and quite possibly other bands) had similar ideas before....

That is a great thing BB! Too many people are so quik to jump to the defence and not hear other ideas and views. :) I think you are going to fit in here, for sure!

Re: Self-Portrait
As far as self portraits go, this is very creative!
There seems to be a lot of symbloism going on.
It's really a great photograph.
Great lighting, great presentation.
What I want to know is what you are really trying to say about yourself?
Welcome to PR.com BTW!

Re: Self-Portrait
What i really like about this picture is that the subject has a pair of scissors in his hand and yet does not cut away the wrapping. So, for me, it's saying you have the necessary tools to get out of the crap you're in, but you just choose to suffocate in it instead. Someone said having a gun instead of scissors would be better, but i'd have to disagree. Scissors can get you out of it, a gun would just kill you.
