Sigma 200-500mm f/2.8 Zoom Lens

Yeah, you read that right. Sigma is introducing a 200-500mm f/2.8 zoom lens.







This thing is truly a monster. What you see here isn't the final version. The lens weighs 28 pounds and the lens shade weighs another 7. Even though Sigma hasn't set a price yet, 9 lenses have already been ordered. The final price is likely to be in the area of $15,000 to $20,000.

I would assume it'll have OS too. Personally I find the range not so good unless the 2x is applied and don't understand why not a prime 500F2.8 or a 800F4 even.

Ahh yes, I forgot:

"A dedicated APO TELE CONVERTER 2x EX DG II is supplied as a standard accessory with the APO 200-500mm F2.8 EX DG."

It is not an OS lens. I would guess that OS would have been cost-prohibitive on a lens with elements this big. Here's a link to the press release, which I just posted:
