In a world of super-zooms, it is always a pleasure to find a manufacturer taking chances on cameras that address a photographic niche. It's a bonus if the result produces exceptional handling, usability, and (of course) image quality. Following on the heels of Ricoh's GR Digital, Sigma is getting into the game with the DP-1. I have my fingers crossed.
By the way, this is a great Photo John shot. As an editor, I love to see this kind of combination of light, composition, and moment. Well done John! Okay back to the camera...
The DP1 sports the Foveon 14M X3 sensor (2652 x 1768 pixels in 3 layers) which is the same as the SD14. The lens is a fixed 28mm f/4 (in 35mm equivalents, actual focal length is 16.6 mm). The hotshoe is a new addition to the original specifications and doubles as the mount for an external viewfinder (not pictured).
