For lightweight cameras (so not a DSLR) this is a tool to get the camera into places you wouldn't normally go.

At approximately arm's length fully extended it looks like a useful tool for all kinds of situations ... overhead, self-portraits, low angle, can you think of more?

It has click locks on each length, so you don't need to use it at full extension and the locks prevent it twisting.

Why does that matter? Well my Panasonic FZ5 has the tripod screw on one end of the camera. Without those locks the extending tubes could rotate and my camera would always be in portrait orientation.

I tried it with my 580EX flash to see how it would help get photos at the trade show.

It handled the weight well, and gave me extra reach to match the 70mm lens for stand closeups without needing an assistant to hold the light over the product.

With the additional tripod legs that screw into the standard screw socket on the end of the handle, it could make a lightweight and portable light stand for my 580EX.
