Photographer Freeware/Shareware
Maybe I'm a bit slow, but recently I came across The Photographers' Ephemeris -- a freeware app specifically designed for photogs. I was so impressed that I thought I would inquiry about other favorite freeware/shareware applications for photography. Your favorites?

Thanks for posting. I haven't heard of this software, but a quick web search later I see on their web site that it has this capability:
The Photographer's Ephemeris (TPE) is a tool to help with the planning of all types of outdoor photography, but particularly landscape and urban scenes.
It is a map-centric sun and moon calculator: see how the light will fall on the land.
TPE's map-based approach means you are not limited to a predefined list of locations, which often don't include the places many photographers go. Instead, search for any place name on the planet or position the map pin exactly where you want it.
Advanced features including automatic time zone and elevation detection, correction for atmospheric refraction and height above the horizon, ensuring that you have the best possible information for planning your shoot.
You can even determine when the sun or moon will be visible behind nearby hills and mountains.
Key features of TPE for iOS:
- Time and direction of sunrise and sunset
- Time and direction of moonrise and moonset
- Phase of the moon and % illumination
- Times of civil, nautical and astronomical twilight
- Graphical display on a map
- Save any location you want - no fixed lists
- Automatic time zone detection for any location on earth
- Determines elevation above sea level
- View azimuth and altitude of sun/moon for any time of day/night
- Distance, bearing and elevation angle between any two points
- Find when the sun/moon will appear from behind a hill
- Compensation for atmospheric refraction
- Compensation for elevation above the horizon
- Does not require network connection for rise/set times and azimuths. (Note: maps and elevation do require a data connection)
I think I'll definitely check into it. They also have an iPad version.

Re: Photographer Freeware/Shareware
For landscape shoots during the "golden hours", it's a great planning tool. Fiddle around with it & you'll see that it has some very useful features.
I'm wondering if there are other little gems like this out there.
Re: Photographer Freeware/Shareware
I use TPE frequently. A great help.
Occasionally I use photoscape, an editing program of mind-boggling simplicity, but yet feature rich. I do screen capture, on-image text, resizing and collages with it. It's free and very capable.
Re: Photographer Freeware/Shareware
Interesting & at a decent price. ;-) Admittedly I use Adobe Camera Raw (& Photoshop Elements occasionally) for my post-production. So I am quite content with my image editing tools.
Re: Photographer Freeware/Shareware
Since you mention TPE (and I use it too) I can't use that one :)
How about Paint.NET ? The right price (free) and a good simple image editor.
Re: Photographer Freeware/Shareware
Oh I won't use Photoscape to replace Lightroom at any point, but it does somethings well and sometimes easier than LR, and also has a raw converter, so it's got a place at table.
Re: Photographer Freeware/Shareware
GIMP is another free raster graphic application. I find it's UI a little odd, but as it's been said here ... The price is right.
