NX2 and Color Space

I've been using Nikon's Capture NX2 for a while now and still can't figure why when I open a RAW file why it has a different color space than what I have set in camera and also in the software itself under color management. I have Adobe RGB set in camera and chose the same for color management and yet there's always something different at the bottom left corner of the photo.

My lab requested I use their icc profile when soft proofing and Adobe RGB as the color space but I'm not sure that's what I'm getting. Have I missed something somewhere? The attached shows what I'm getting when I open a file.

This is a bit difficult for me to answer because a) I've never tried changing the colour space b) my system is in French.

In the Preferences (?) menu there is a Colour Management (?) option which allows you to set the default colour space and force it to use a particular one if you want to. I haven't done anything to mine and it's set to use the Epson sRGB profile by default (I have an Epson printer) and not use the Epson profile rather than the default one.

That's an odd name, Franglais, a cross between Francais and Anglais? What I did last night is check the box that says, "Use this instead of embeded profile" or someting to that effect as I'm at work and don't have access to my pp program. That will change every photo opened for pp to my default of Adobe RGB. That may just change it in the EXIF data only and not mean anything-I'm not sure. I don't use a printer at home but rather send the files to my lab for enlargements, etc. They told me not to embed the .icc profile they sent but to just use it for soft proofing and use Adobe RGB as my color space.

I'm English been living in France for decades. When I speak French I have an English accent and when I speak English I sometimes have a French accent.

"Franglais" (pronounced Fronglay) is an unofficial French word to describe a sentence that is an ugly mix of English and French. Example: "OK c'est cooool. On va prendre un Brunch chez Macdonalds".

That sort of reminds me of my time spent in Hanau, Germany. I learned a lot of "GI" German but never could get a feel for the language. I never coud figure why what looked like a fancy capital B was actually two s's.

Hey ColColt, I was stationed in Wildflecken Germany in the mid 80s. I got a little feel for German, but never advanced very far with it. Funny, that 'Eszett' character was on its way out back when I was there (they were trying to replace it with "ss" to better conform with the standard latin alphabet) but given the conservative nature of Europeans with their history and culture, it somehow stuck around, and they're still using it today..

I always thought the strange looking capital "B" for two s's looked odd but, I wasn't born in Deutchland and I'm sure they were all very use to it. I was at Hutier Kasern on Lamboy Strasse in the mid '60's when "bier" was one mark out of a sidewalk machine or 50 phennigs at "Pigalle".:) I could get a round trip train ticket from Hanau to Frankfurt then for two mark-50 phennings-the equivalent of about 60 cents.

I'm still open to suggestions on this. The other day I sent three files to the lab for them to send evaluation prints back. I received them yesterday and two out of the three looked darker than I saw when I soft proofed the images using the labs printer profile. I don' tquite understand that. The color was right on but just a bit too dark. I went back to those same three images and looked at them on the monitor and then looked at the prints and they turned out just too dark. I decided to recalibrate the monitor to make the prints on screen look like the prints sent in and had to drop the brightness from 72 to 35(100 the highest) and it looked more like the prints sent. Then, recalibrated to this without changing the luminance. Should I be closer now to having the monitor calibrated to their printer/paper combination?
