    Need Help Converting From Raw
I have never shot in Raw mode, but decided to give it a try this weekend. I shot 46 images, brought them home, loaded them on the computer, attempted to process with the EOS Solution disk but received an error message for all 46 images. None of them could be converted. Is there something I am missing, a camera setting, a software setting, etc. Any help would be great.

    Thanks,

    David

Do you have any other programs such as photoshop, photoshop elements, or something like that?

If you'd like you could send me one via email & I can try to open it in to see if its a file problem or a program issue.

    David,

I had a similar problem using the Pro 1 disk with 5D RAW files. Make sure your using the software for the camera.

I would download the latest software from the Canon support site as theykeep improving the software with more functionality.

    Roger/jorge:

Thanks for the comments. I have tried the software that came with the camera, Photoshop, then downloaded a program from Canon. None worked. Photoshop doesn't even recognize the files. The Canon software attempts to process the RAW files, but sends creates an error message with each file indicating the files could not be converted. If there is anything else you can think of please let me know. Thanks again.

Did you use the Canon program to download them? If not, try that. - TF

I have no problems with Lightroom 2.
I've abandoned the Canon applications, they're too slow and unreliable.

What photoshop version do you have? If its older than your camera, you;ll need to get their plugin to use it. Plug-ins are free.

    David,

How are you transfering the photos to the computer, USB, or card reader?
Can the camera see the photo's on screen?
What is the exact error message?
Have you tried DPP which comes on the disc?

Thanks all for your ideas/suggestions. I will try to answer your questions, see if I can remember them all.

I am downloading the images from the CF card to the computer via card reader. Then opening the file of images with the EOS software. The EOS program tries to read each image but sends an error message with each images as follows: conversion cannot be completed.

I have Photoshop 7.0 that has a RAW converter, but will check and see if it is compatible with the 40D. Photoshop does not even recognize the images are there. I did not get a chance to fiddle with this last night but will try again tonight.

Thanks so much for all the suggestions. I will let you know if I get this figured out.

Re: Need Help Converting From Raw
I think that Photoshop 7 is too old to include Adobe Camera Raw. If you mean the RAW option in File -> Open from Photoshop, it used to mean "an image without any format, just the raw data". That's not to open the RAW files from digital cameras.
Canon's Digital Photo Professional should open the files, or the Photoshop version that is sometimes shipped with Canon's cameras. You can download Canon software for the 40D here (note that i selected Windows XP, if you have other OS, change the option): http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/co...&modelid=17779

EDIT: If you mean Photoshop Elements 7, it should be new enough to have Camera RAW. Try to download a new version of the Camera RAW plugin in the Adobe site. New versions of the plug-in have support for new cameras.

    Gentlemen:

    Problem Solved!

I am embarrassed to even tell you what the problem was. It has nothing to do with the camera, my computer, the software...., well the software; the wrong software. I was using the DPP for my XTi, not the 40D. I discovered I was using the wrong EOS icon on the desk top. When using the correct software, all the RAW files opened with no problem. Now the fun of discovering what all the hub-bub is about using RAW.

Thanks to all for your suggestions. I appreciate you taking the time. I feel like a real dope!

Glad its working. Sometimes ya just gotta talk it out and it all of a sudden makes sense.

I had a software problem at the beginning of the new year that required a call to tech support for company A. As soon as they were on the line and had connected to my computer, I realized the problem was with a different piece of software. :D

Which RAW software is best for you? the answer depends on the camera you’re using. Before i have some pictures of some view's, I got them in RAW formate, for that i use an software to convert them. Lightroom Test Shock, After lots of tests where Lightroom 3 was a clear winner with every camera, I’ve finally found one where that’s not true.
