    iPhone apps

With my right hand rebuilt by the plastic surgeons, I'm not using a camera for a while
But with a free upgrade to iPhone 4, I have an alternative

    - Pro HDR (eyeApps LLC)
Although the built-in camera app has HDR the feature isn't very good. This is easily worth the £1.49 paid for it.

    - snapseed (Nik software)
Local adjustmentson the iPhone, with control points. More expensive at £2.99, but very useful.

    - photosynth (Microsoft)
At £0.00 the price is right.

    - PS Express (Adobe)
Not even worth the £0.00 I didn't pay for it, snapseed kicks its butt all over the park.

Of course the iPhone can be used for other things too

    Other essentials: £0.00
    TuneIn Radio
    Skype, Twitter, Facebook (or TweetDeck)
Sky Go to watch UK satellite TV on the go
    RailEasy (UK rail planner/ticketing)
    DirectGov traffic news
    TrafficView (by trafficmaster)

    Cool:
SkyView well worth the £1.49 just for satellite tracking alone, next ISS visibility 16:01 currently RA 10:57 Dec -40:36. This augmented reality is SciFi come true.

    here's another one
    - Luminance (subsplash)
Layered editing, history, colour balance & tone curve. Only £0.69 and unlike all other apps I have, I can Zoom while editing !

Good post, Paul. I've got an iPhone top photo apps article on my editorial calendar so this will be useful. Anyone else have anything to add?

Seems we should maybe have a dedicated forum for smartphone cameras and their apps.

Smartphone apps tend to be very limited due to memory, CPU, power and pointing device limitations, so I don't see them being serious tools for photographers in the near term.

    However, they are getting better!

    Re: iPhone apps

The iPhone 4 cpu is almost as fast as my atom netbook, that runs LR3.
So it's more available RAM than the processor.
iPhone 5 may even have the same cpu as today's iPad, and the next iPad might be quad core.
The touch screen is far better than a conventional mouse, more like a drawing pad like Wacom - except you can't see through your finger ;)

iPhone is not far behind my 10" netbook, and the iPad exceeds it by quite a bit.
The convergence of phone and camera is well on the way.

Well, as you said, there is quite a convergence of the photographic abilities of our mobile devices. I can't help but think that as the tech improves, the use will increase among they type that hang out here at PR. When I look at some of the other forums here and see less than 5 threads sometimes, it seems that it may be a welcome, albeit a niche addition. I wouldn't pose camera phones as serious tools, but they are fun, and come in handy in a pinch.

    Handy
The main reason I'm using it is because I'm down to one hand.
But no one seems to make left handed cameras.
The iPhone is the only camera I've got that can beu sed left handed.

Thanks for apps, there are more in the market at the moment and each day more, so the list could be infinity.
