    Elements 6 and Macs
This is so stupid... I installed Elements 6 on the Mac of my girlfriend's brother. Everything went fine including the updates. However, Layers does not work. No matter what image, no matter what format the image is in, the Layers selection is totally grayed out. Nothing I do can get anything, even "New."

Anyone have any ideas? I know it works well on Windows but I don't believe I've done anything wrong installing it on the Mac.

    Thanks.

This can sometimes happen if the photo your editing is protected from modifications. If this is the case then some of the filters won't work either.

No, the files are not protected. I'll play around a little more but I'm guessing that Elements for the Mac is not nearly as well written as their Windows versions. I might have to tell him to bite the bullet and save up his pennies for PhotoShop.

Problem solved - sort of. I had him return Elements (no problem doing that, I'm surprised) and exchange it for Pixelmator off the web. That product does everything he wants and actually works!

Well, that's one solution. I was going to ask if the pics were 16 bit or 8 bit - layers don't work on 16 bit. But never mind....

I forgot about that one. Thanks for the memory prod.
