I went to a local gallery this weekend that was hosting an exhibit of a local photographer. The name of the show was "Sacred Places" or somthing along that line. I went to the reception to take a look at his work and I was a little surprised at what I saw.
The photos in the show depicted statues, and creations of other peoples artwork. Some were from private homes, others were from museums and places open to the public. I couldn't help but think that this is in some way of rip-off of other artists work. I have never considered myself and artist, or "artsie", but this show just sort of seemed wrong to me. Would it be any different if I had walked into this gallery and started taking photos of his photos, and then displayed them in a gallery?
I realise that anyone can define almost anything as art, but for me, these photos weren't art. They were photos of other peoples art.
