    September project......."From the Hip"
I go through all the project suggestions and many are good but many have been done and I try to make the projects ones that just about anyone can do.

From another site, I found this idea..."FROM THE HIP"
The idea is to carry camera at hip level and shoot from that perspective. No viewfinder use.
"Shooting from the hip is a great technique and, if you've never tried it, makes a great basis for a street photography project. With your camera at waist level, you shoot upwards, without looking through the viewfinder – so your subjects don't know they are being photographed and you are rewarded with genuinely candid photographs of people, with the added bonus of an interesting perspective."

Should be a lite and fun project and who knows....maybe we'll get a really great shot out of all the fun ones.
Doesn't necessarily have to be street photos or candids of people...could be interesting perspective of anything and the no viewfinder part should make it interesting to see what we get.

    Have fun!

It could just be like another photograph after all the cropping and rotation adjustment as it doesn't necessarily lead to a shot that looks like it was taken from a lower perspective :)

I'd say though that if the subject finds out that you're photographing him/her that way, he/she may even be more offended than if you just raised the camera to eye level to take the picture because at least that way, you're open for everyone to see that you're taking a photograph.

Nevertheless, I do use that technique myself sometimes ;-)

I used to do that a lot with the phone camera, but that phone used one of the side buttons to take the picture so it was easy to do by feel. With the clicker on the screen among 8 other menu and mode buttons it's not so easy to do on modern glass-front phones. I've never really tried it with an SLR, though.

I think it is much simpler with an SLR , less covert though
set it to p , auto iso , continues autofocus, wide angle lens

    Ready to roll !!

I tried , but never got anything worth sharing :D

    It is fun anyway

If you use wide-angle (usually it's a 24 for me), use manual focus with a large depth of field and just point and shoot. Auto focus is too slow :)

Many also use digital compact cameras on the streets.

O.k. I know most of you don't like submissions from cell phone cameras. So.... Here is a legit DSLR "Camera" file "from the hip" Auto-Focused... snap-shot. :D

No neck strap & captured @ 160mm as I was trolling behind this San Mateo PD officer walking the grounds at a local airshow.

Since I suggested it, I figured I better try it. Light was a bit dim...used my Tokina on aperture f/4 but changed to program mode and remembered to push the iso to 400 instead of my usual 100...that helped some.
The fairly good...the bad and the ugly.
Not many people out on walk and as you can see the dog wanted to be in all the pics but I did manage to shoot a friend in town when he didn't notice.
