    Re: March project...the four elements

without knowing what the project was, I went and took these this morning -

    implied fire & air -

and obviously water & earth -

    Loving these great project ideas.

I'm going to give this a go one element at a time I think, starting with Earth.

Great topic. I wasn't sure what to do with this one...I'm still not. I have been on a lightbox kick lately so I thought I would try and add the 4 elements to it. I wasn't happy with the original so I mirrored it in PS. It's a little more dark than I had planned...
I Only burned one of my lightboxes (Corona Box) to the ground in the process, Good thing I had a couple more to spare.

yeah, not having much luck with this one. Unless Earth, Wind and Fire come rolling through town on tour, I doubt if I will get a shot in here ;)

All opinions expressed by this person are purely that, opinions which means she doesn't actually know anything about photography.

Not a fire? What do you call it?

Cannuk, I think you got wind and earth with those dunes. Maybe water and earth with the snow one.

I realize this one is a real challenge, especially getting all four in one shot. I keep trying to come up with something and have failed.

I think the sun is a traditional representation of fire. Even if its not a literal one.

No Tarot flavour here - but I think we have all four including the "air that I breathe" - as well as the anticipation of a good lunch from the "potjie" (3 legged pot)

The sun is a nuclear reaction. It gets it's energy from the fusion (squeezing together) of hydrogen atoms. The energy comes from the conversion of mass into energy via Einstein's famous E= mc^2 . Fire is a chemical process that uses oxygen. The sun has no flames, no oxygen. No comparison in the amount of energy released.

But don't worry. most of my students come in thinking the sun is a big fire as well. This was the widely held belief into the 20th century until the process of fusion was uncovered. Previous to that, there were arguments as to what it was: a bunch of wood, coal, hydrocarbons, etc. None of these explanations, however, could come even close to explaining the intense energy output and longevity (about 4.5 billion years) of the sun.

Doesn't change the wonderful photos here!
