    July Photo Project: Patriotism

    Hey guys,

Great turn out on last months Photo Project. I was personally very impressed.

This month I intend to forgo to obvious while sticking to the basic theme of the month.

    Patriotism

What does it mean to you? Do you have a different idea from the mainstream of what it means to be patriotic, or are you right down the middle with most? If you are from a country other than the USA then share with us here what it means to be a patriot in your own homeland.

I hope to see some great themes here, and some wonderful images as well!

Thanks for the chance to post patriotic photos. Thanks too to all the servicemen and women who through the years have protected our country so we may continue to live in freedom. I missed the coastguard here, but have a picture somewhere - just have to find it.

    Re: July Photo Project: Patriotism

    Can I post a patriotic image if I'm from the UK ? ! ?
My subject was more upset that it was bedtime, not the England team being knocked out of the Wrlds Cup, because he couldn't bounce on the bouncy castle anymore !
Unfortunately - I've had to reduce quality down so much - you cannot see the tears in his eyes
How can you keep quality AND reduce file size ?

    Re: July Photo Project: Patriotism

    Is this patriotic?

Walmer Castle was originally conceived during the reign of Henry VIII as a vital defence against the threat of a Catholic attack from across the channel.

This was the Queen Mother's residence when she used to pay visit's to Kent.

You can show your national pride from anywhere!

Sorry about the kid being sad and all.

If you use a version of Photoshop use the "Save For Web Feature" under the file menu. You can show it all the way up to full size. But 800x660 is best.

A little American, Canadian, and Bermudian(Or the correct spelling of Bermuda Nationality)

and I think fireworks show a degree of patriotism for our country. You think of the 4th of july and picture fireworks, don't you?

    Re: July Photo Project: Patriotism

My daughter's school were having a red, white and blue day to celebrate the Queen's 80th birthday back in April.
My twin daughters, Jenny and Lisa went to school with their faces painted, by Gina.

Great shots of the fireworks SpeedingSphere! I love the bottom image and would love to know what lens and settings you used in prep for our displays in November. I would love to take some shots of my own

    Re: July Photo Project: Patriotism

for the bottom picture I shot with my 28-135mm @ 28mm(cropped the final shot). Here's the full EXIF.

    Aperature: f/11
    Shutter Speed: 14"
    ISO: 100
    White Balance: Daylight
    Focal Length: 28mm
    Color Space: Adobe RGB 1998

The tips in one of the forums(I think in the Viewfinder) for taking firework photo's is a life saver. If I'm not mistaken, it was by Sebastian. He did a very good job with making that!

And I love the detail and clarity of the photos of your daughters. The focus is always perfect! that 50mm lens must be a treasure! I can't wait to see the firework photos you get with that little 50mm of yours. It is going to be my next purchase!

There are so many things that represent being a Patriot OR Patriotism, yet this is what I first remember as a child. The 4th is still my favorite day of the year for so many reasons...

    Re: July Photo Project: Patriotism

Well thanks Liz. I enjoyed it also. The color is really fun, and the kids tell the story. I had not really taken any night pictures with my old film SLR, so when I got my digital, it was one of my 1st projects to do while on vacation. Fun!

Funny, been taking pictures for 35 years, and all of my favorites are of people unaware that I'm taking their picture.
