2009 March Project: Open
Well here we are at the 1st of March already!!! Where does the time go?!
I'm leaving this month's project "Open".
Let's see your style. Let's see what you love to shoot the most
I'll start the ball rolling. This one pretty much sums my style up I think.

OK Alison, I hate to be the one to have to follow you, but this is a shot I took last week of a busker in Geneva, pritty much straight from the camera outside cropping. Yep, I like street photography. Shootme

Two of my loves, the third never stands still.

Re: 2009 March Project: Open
WOW shootme! That's an amazing shot! I never knew you liked to shoot street photography
It's going to be hard for me to show anything you haven't seen. I shall have to try shooting some new stuff. Although, my heart hasn't been in my photography recently.
I have been spending alot of time with my kids and capturing family moments so most of my recent shots are simply that, family snaps.
Maybe that's what I like to shoot too :D
Capturing my kids, being natural and having fun.

Great shots, I love B&W as well the last one is super.
Rick I know you like night shots, I still remember the 4th of July shot that you posted last year looking up the flag pole at the American Flag with the fireworks going off overhead, a very impressionable shot, that I still remember.
Here's a couple more:-

Re: 2009 March Project: Open
Anyone that has followed my post over the last few years knows that a large percentage of the photos I take are of the grandsons. Most are just snap shots, but I hope that my candid images hold up to some amount of scrutiny.

Re: 2009 March Project: Open
OT, lovely shot, you must be proud, the lighting is great. I guess you're spending some of your time on your knees if not belly then? S

Thanks shootme. Yes your right I was flat on my stomach for this shot and for many of the ones I do of the boys. You need to get down to their level. AS for lighting this was done with the SB800 fitted with the Gary Fong tubberware.

Well, I haven't got one I'm totally happy with yet but double exposures are fascinating me as well as b/w.

Re: 2009 March Project: Open
Great shot Frog, scary though. So how do you do it? S

Tripod, timer, set double exposure, shutter, run, stand still, walk back, shutter.
Next time I'll use my rf release instead of the timer.

OK thanks now that doesn't sound as difficult as I thought it would be, now that I've said that I'm sure I have difficulty, probably the running part (must lengthen my timer or remote control as you suggest). Cheers.

Re: 2009 March Project: Open
Yeah, I missed a few by not running fast enough,(hard in the snow), and being half in and half out of shot.
Come to think of it its hard to run without snow anymore too.

Re: 2009 March Project: Open
Hmm, finding the things that I like to shoot most & "personal style" are not easy for me, as I'm still discovering both. But here's one I liked because of what always catches my eye: long shadows and contrast between hard and soft (surfaces/textures).
As luck would have it, I took this one yesterday - March 1st! In that spirit, I happily submit it to this project thread
:D

Hi Gracie, no I didn't know him unfortunately and yes he was very nice and amenable. He was busking on the sidewalk and I asked if I could take some photos of him, he said yes so I dropped some money in his can and took about 8 or so shots. He was moving around in different ways and when he looked to the lens I was lucky enough to shoot.
Side note: 5 minutes after I was pulled over by the Geneva Police as I took a couple of shots of them booking someone who was skateboarding on the sidewalk. They said it was illegal to take photos of police without a press ID and made me delete the shots. Cheers S.

Where is this building located? I live in Ottawa. I'm intrigued by the fact that you were able to enter and wander at will.

Well you shouldn't be!
We all have our strengths and weaknesses. You should see my poor attempts at nature & landscape photography haha.
That's a great shot. Love the water droplets. Welcome to the project

Re: 2009 March Project: Open
For something completely different... although the nature of these is on the dark side, it's really just a few of my friends doing some acting and having fun, while I do the same with the camera and lighting.

Re: 2009 March Project: Open
I love the open category, because it always prompts me to spend some time going back through the archives. Here's a favorite from last Autumn:

Thanks! The first one is 1/250th at f/8 ISO 100 and 16mm, shot blindly by putting my camera on the ground and pointing up at the flower. The second was 1/500th at f/5 ISO 100 and 60mm. I wanted enough DOF for the tall flower but also open enough to get decent bokeh for the background. I have this shot at smaller aperture as well and the flower is tack sharp front to back but I wasn't pleased with the background at anything past f/5. Both shot in RAW and processed in LR 2.
