Here is a link to one of many places you can get external hdds from. If you have a local Best Buy or some type of computer store I'm sure you can pick one up there as well. I would stick with a name like Maxtor or Seagate myself. They've been in the hdd biz for quite a while.

Most need little to no configuration. Just plug them in and the operating system on your computer takes care of the rest. When you open MY Computer it will appear as removable media which is just a fancy way of saying that it is some type of storage that can be disconnected from the computer.

Firewire is just another way to connect devices to a computer, like usb. A little faster but not as widely available.
