Where to Buy PS?

My version of PS is giving me fits and locking up files after I use "Save As". I'd like to get the latest version (which, I understand, may have fixed this issue). Question - where is the best place to buy said software? Online? Big box store? What does everyone recommend. Or do I buy an update?

What kind of errors are you getting? Which version are you using? Have you tried reinstalling it? That usually fixes problems like you're describing. You can just reinstall over the top. It's easy and shouldn't screw anything up. I think it even saves your preferences, although I don't remember for sure. Unless you really want/need a new version and have the money (lots), I'd try reinstalling first. It's also possible that the problem with how you have Photoshop configured or even with your computer.

You may be confusing updates with upgrades. Updates are free to registered users, are offered every so often, and usually deal with minor bugs associated with specific OS configurations or very specific tasks.

UPGRADES are new versions of the program, and consist of new and improved features as opposed to "fixes"...

I agree with John. Try reinstalling and make sure you have all the updates for your particular version. Perhaps the problem you're having is addessed in Adobe's tech support...

I have reinstalled. I still have locked up files that I can't even delete from the computer from last week.

I meant upgrade, not update - although if there were an update that fixes the problem, that would be great.

This is all related to work. I work for a realtor and handle marketing/brochures, etc. I can't do the job if the tools don't work. PS ( I have version 6.0) has been just fine for over 2years, and then this locking up started recently and sporadically. Finally, last week, it locked up every time I saved a photo. I posted in the Help forum, and someone suggested that it was a PS problem - one they had had in the past but not with CS. So I was looking for a way to go that route.

The message is along the lines of - "could not open because the file is locked. Use the 'Properties' command in the Windows Explorer to unlock the file." I've tried that (over and over and over and over . . .) and it hasn't worked, even combined with rebooting, restarting, and any other number of things.

I appreciate your trying to save me $$, but I won't be me paying for it :p

Well, as far as I can tell, to upgrade to PS CS2 should cost you $169 at the Adobe store online. So, if it were me, I'd go for it...

Still, I'd be concerned about your technical issues. As I mentioned, the upgrade doesn't usually address these types of things per se. There is a better than even chance that this bug will still exist with the new version.

One thing you might try is the support section of the Adobe web site:

You'll probably have to register first to gain access to tech support features, but it will be worth it in the long run. There is a data base for searching, as well as specific forums to ask tech questions.

I think B&H might have it for $149 as well.

Have you checked the forums on the Adobe site. I'm not sure if a new version of Photoshop will solve this one. Better check up on it first. I think I may have run into this same problem. But I can't remember for sure. It sounds familiar, though. Where are the files you're trying to access?

Photoshop CS2 will be a huge jump from Photoshop 6.0. If money's not an issue, you should definitely do it.

I was able to get it with a student discount due to some continuing ed classes I've taken, so CS has been ordered and is on it's way!
