tif to jpeg

Can anyone help me for this...my digital camera takes pictures of 3 million pixels and stores them as tif files but when I change them to jpeg the image seems to lose resolution and looks nothing like the original picture.. I need to change to jpeg because its quicker to upload to the internet and quicker to load on a webpage,

What software are you using to change them form tif to jpeg?
How are you making the change to jpeg?
Are you changing the image size as well (down to maybe 640x480) for the web?
Or are you posting the full resolution pictures as jpeg?
Do you have an example on your webpage?

Some software does a horrible job of JPEG compression. Photoshop is good and you can record an "action" to resize the TIFF and then convert to JPEG to automate batch processing if you so desire. For posting here, make sure your image falls within the set constraints: 640x480 and less than 190kb in size.
