saving camera raw settings in database

I thought it would be a nifty idea to save my camera raw settings as .xmp sidecar files as opposed to in one database. The problem is, however, that it makes organizing stuff a pain (little "xmp"s EVERYWHERE!) so now I want to switch back. Well, I changed the preference in the camera raw plugin back to database, but it keeps saving all of the camera raw settings as xmp files. What do I have to do? Trash all the .xmp files?
Any help will be REALLY appreciated.
