Faux CD cover - for critique

This is a picture of my son, which I have photoshopped and made into a "faux" CD cover for him.

    Whaddya think?
(aside from image degradation from the conversion to post here ... it seems to have suffered a bit.)

    Gday Kellybean,

    Nice photograph Kelly,

I think the composition could be improved though, your son has very striking eyes, I have cropped the image so to highlight this feature. A perfect square crop usually looks better I find also.

I like the soft effect you have used, how did you do this?

    Hope this helps,

    JJ.

Thank you JJ, my son will like this better. His only comment was, "but my nose looks even bigger now!"

I did several things to this (I hope I remember them all). It started as a very overexposed, out of focus shot. First I increased the contrast quite a bit to accentuate the lines, especially the nose which was disappearing whenever I applied effects, and decreased brightness. Then I went into shadow/highlight and decreased the highlight in order to get more detail in the overexposed areas, and increased the shadow.

Then the "effect" was created in Filter-->Distort-->Diffuse Glow. Then, because the colors were weird (too red), I decreased saturation until I got some browns I like.

I think that's about all. I should show you what I started with. (My son actually took the picture himself, that's why it's taken too close.)

This is confusing, are you being sarcastic?

The image I have attached only shows his eyes.

Thanks for explanation of the process you used.

no, not being sarcastic. I hadn't shown your photo to my son yet when I posted the above; I was explaining why he hadn't liked the previous version I made.

Hope that clears up the confusion.

If I were in the store looking for new music, I would have looked at the first before the second. JMO.
