I have been doing some online research on what film scanner I should
be purchasing to accomplish the digital conversion of approximately
4000 B&W negatives, Kodacolor negs, Ektachrome, Fujichrome and
Kodachrome slides.
Although the cost of the equipment is important, quality of the
scanned images is most important. In addition to my KM Maxxum 7D, I'd like to
continue using my film cameras on occasion, but will need to
know that the film can be reliably digitized.
In this perspective, I have been seriously considering the Konica
Minolta DiMAGE Scan Elite 5400 II Film Scanner, after finding that
the Nikon scanners' film handling equipment attracts such strong
criticism.
I have probably 1500 Kodachrome slides, and I understand that the
ICE4 works poorly with these, as well as with B&W negatives. Most of
my Kodachrome slides, some of which date back to the 1950s are in
pretty good shape, but some do have mildew problems.
Might anyone have any suggestions for the equipment and software that
I should be considering?
