The Ultra II has faster read/write times. This comes in handy when taking many shots in a short period of time among other things like faster transfer rates to computer.

    Smiles,
Good choice on the 30d. I got one about 3 months ago and LOVE it.

The difference is read and write speeds. The faster the card, the faster your buffer clears, allowing more pictures to be taken (continuous or rapid pics). The Dane writes at 1.5 MB/sec to 3.15 MB/sec. It reads a little better, but writing is what you need for your camera. The Sandisk writes at 9 mb/sec and reads at 10 mb/sec. This is a big differance if you shoot sports and use the burst mode or you take a lot of pictures rapid style. Also Sandick is a very good company (IMHO). I have a Sandick Ultra II and a Sandisk Extreme III. I have never had any problems with them.

As far as justifing the cost difference, that is a call you would have to make.

You really don't need the Extreme cards unless your shooting in very cold or hot , or humid enviroments. These cards will still write /read fast in those enviroments. Since I go from one extreme to another, especially in the winter I use them. I can be shooting in 20 degree weather and then 10 minutes later shooting 80 degree 100 % humidity....not good for the card, camera or lenses!
