Mac or PC for video and photos editing

I want to buy a computer for video and photos editing, I am not new but not to advance in this.

What would you recommend?
Mac or PC and which model os specs to look for.
Desktop or laptop.

I would recommend strongly, extremely, to get whichever of the two you want.

Mac has final cut, if you want to edit videos with that, you'll have to do mac.

lol, you're asking us desktop or laptop?

Pretty much just try to get the best hardware specs you possibly can with whatever budget you are working with.

Mac. I'm writing this on my 4 year old MacBook Pro that runs rings around most PC laptops. Never had a problem with it, I do about 90% of all my editing on it. I've also got a year old iMac W/ a 24" screen that I'll use too. I'm just more comfortable on my laptop, so it's a personal preference thing. But definitely, get a Mac.

Either one is fine.Choose Windows or Mac depending upon your budget, the amount of money you are willing to spend, and what you like. Neither has any advantage over the other.

Avoid the very basic Netbook type laptop running Windows 7. These are fine for surfing on the web but not for heavyweight applications like video and photo editing:

- go for a system with 2GB of RAM minimum
- avoid a system with the Intel Atom processor. Speed is sacrificed for power economy
- if you get a portable then go for at least a 12 inch screen or you'll find that you won't have enough space on the screen for all the stuff you use when editing

I say that but I do know someone who swears that his 1GB RAM Intel Atom netbook is fine for video editing.

Personally I have systems with 4GB of RAM and two or four core processors. And even then I find they don't go fast enough

A prime consideration that should be factored in is what software platforms for editing you want to use. Then appropriate specs can be generated and see where your budget and hardware needs mesh.

Video is memory intensive and the more you can throw at it the smoother your work will progress. Storage with external drives is a very real consideration these days with larger image files, both still and video. Lots and lots of drive space. 1 Tb increments these days for any future consideration.

The other modern consideration is having two or more monitors in use at the same time. More money but the editing environments that support this are able to crank out a lot more work and have flexibility not achievable until recently except in very costly set ups.
