'Grainy' images with hi-res camera

I have a Sony DSC v1 and have not been able to get decent prints from pics all shot at the highest res (5mp). Images have a definite grainy look. This does not seem to be a printing problem as I have tried on different computers and printers. Any ideas anyone?

Could you post a full sized crop of a sample image that best shows the grain? Also, please include the ISO setting that the photo was taken at (if applicable, I don't know anything about your particular camera).

We can probably tell you something more after we see a sample photo.
