Arrgh... Missed it - but - got that drive a while back on sale at Comp USA. I thought $250 was good because it never goes on sale! It's even $300 at B&H, or was about 6wks ago when I got mine.

Could use another CF card or two, but couldn't we all !

Sorry, that was suppose to be Homer Simpson drooling...

I got the baby yesterday and hooked it up as quickly as possible. Problem is I have USB 1, and with that connection backup of just the MYDOC folder would take about 6 or 7 hours. Hmmm...

I realize the first backup is the longest, and I could probably just let it run overnight, but I think instead I'm gonna go out and get a USB 2 card this weekend. Been meaning to upgrade to that anyway...

Yeah, ever since Sebastian mentioned using a removable external hd, I knew that was the way to go. My computer guru swears by Maxtor, and I know the rule of a dollar a gig being a decent price, so this was a no-brainer.

Having this redundancy, plus the overall storage space (especially with it being so quickly accessible) will be a great help to my workflow...

I unplug mine when not backing up just in case I get nailed with a nasty virus or something. I want the duplicates to be as pure as possible.

USB 2.0 is nice, but if it has a firewire option, THAT is the way to go.

Steve, that's exactly my situation. Matter of fact the USB2 card has been sitting on my desk for about 3 weeks... Now that I've admitted that I suppose I'll take the 5 minutes to do it this weekend and then wonder why I waited so long ! I have and will continue archiving to CD, but will have a (much) more accessible file on the HD. And like Sebastian, I leave mine off when I'm not using it. Start the first copy, let it run overnight and it'll be done. Actually I brought over a couple of small files just to make sure everything was working, then started the job.

The version I have is Firewire (400) or USB2 capable, but I have other stuff to use the USB2 with so that's the route I'm going - for now.
