Re: torn between two sunrise shots

    Dang Polarbear ...

I get such a different feeling from these two shots.

1st: I love that the sun is the focal point of the pic. The sun is framed (cradled if you would) so very nicely by the
two tree tops on the tree line. Just rising ... giving light to the tree line below which is still in the dark.
Giving hope for a new day.

2nd: The sun is up. Throwing a warm shadow across the field ... punctuating the hay bales.
Great DOF and color. A very "warm and fuzzy" picture which makes one smile.

Hard to choose ... but I think I like the first best. It is more "unusual" to me.

Thanks for posting these great shots.

Re: torn between two sunrise shots

These are both good images, but they are very different. Why do you want to know which one is better? Are you choosing one for submitting into a exhibit or contest?
Being that they are completely different photos, it is hard to say which one is better but I find myself to be more interested in the second shot of the hay bales in the field.
The sun still being low in the sky cast some interesting shadows of the bales and scenery.
    These are both fine images.

I think the grain field is better only because it has more content. These are both very goiod shots.

Re: torn between two sunrise shots

I prefer #2. The tendency of most people is to shoot the sun but the result of the side lighting and warm tones given by the sunrise make a scene pop.

The only thing about the second one is that I'd like to see an element of dominant interest, such as a tractor. The lighting and composition are great, good balance, perfect exposure.

    Tractor!

    I like tractors

Crop the group of 2 hayrolls from the right and I think you'll have a very well balanced and composed shot.

Re: torn between two sunrise shots

I like tractors too, but the problem with the tractor shot is that the scene does not have the warmly lit field and shadows as the other and there are too much dark areas in the field. If that tractor were in the field that you took the first one in, then . . .
