    You've heard of skipping stones...

This is a skipping gull...lol. This guy took off in front of me, and hopped 3 or 4 times on the water in the process.

Ha ha, loce the title! The water thrown up by the seagull's departure is really nicely captured, just wish we could see a little more definition of the seafull against the blue waters but a nice end result none the less.

    Thanks for sharing

Thanks Herriot! Yes, the contrast with the water was something I wished there was more of too...along with that I wished I had gotten the wings a bit sharper.
Thanks for your comments on this!

you captured him just at the right moment, the splashes are fantastic, a bit more definition on the wings and it would be perfect. I'd like to see more space around the seagull but everyone sees differently on cropping/centering! great spontaneous shot.

Wonderful catch. The water frozen in time is wonderful. Just looking at the image, it almost looks like the camera may have focused on the water more than the gull. Do you remember what mode you shot it in?

    Emily,

I think this is spot on - the wings give the picture that dynamic feel of the bird picking up speed and the frozen water enhances this feel by giving us the speed comparison.

I also like how some of the droplets are higher than the bird .

On my monitor the definition of the bird is OK, I don't believe you would get better; its what camouflage is supposed to do.

blsmadrid, thank you for your comments on this...I know what you mean about the cropping...I tend towards a tighter crop myself.
    Mark, thank you!
srobb, thank you as well...and unfortunately, I don't remember the mode...I did take several in a row though, and not using a tripod, I think when I moved the focus shifted a bit...you know?
    Roger, thank you!

    I appreciate everyone's feedback...
