I really like it. The contrast may be a little too much. Or maybe it's a little too bright. I can't always tell :)

What I like is the contast of the sky against the sand. The man laying in front of the house is almost more of a "O, and looky here"

I think that this picture is a bit on the bright side but it certainly is a wonderful achievement. The composition is great and the clouds are plain spectaculars. I also enjoy the wide range in tonality very much.

Was it reworked in PS or is it straight out of the camera?

    regards

i agree the contrast is much, but...the sky with the white clouds is wonderful.
nice composition too, only suggestion would have been if you couls have stepped to the right about 2 foot and cropped the building on the right out..but again...not a big issue.

    good choice of b&w too.

    Thanks for the comments, guys.

Seb, I shot this with a D70 and converted to B&W through channel mixing. Some levels and curves adjustments as well. The magic of digital...

Here is another version I have that has a darker, moodier appearance and a little less contrasty. Is it better?

This is the reason why I will have Photoshop courses this autumn! I cannot possibly craft b&w's that would look anywhere close to that!

Though call. I like them both but I think that the second one is better. I feel that the left side of the main house near the balcony (well at right on the picture)... is getting a bit confused but overall, I find the second version to be more pleasing.

Wonderful effort on this shot. I like so many things about your image, the dramatic sky and the house are great. The man seem a little unnatural in the sand in front, though his presents makes the shot. I think as other have said it is a conversion contrast issue with him. This conversion to B&W thing has turned me everywhich way but loose. I think your first photo was better than the second version for just this reason. From a composition stand point I would have perfered the building on the right out of the shot and the steps a little less centered. I didn't mean to be as critical as this post sounds, because I really loved your idea and the overall image in very nice. You are certainly proving yourself to be a top notch image maker and this will sometimes lead to being held to a higher standard. Keep posting we can all learn form your images.

    Tuna...
I just adore the first shot. It's very pop-arty. If you could use your photoshop skills to clone out the house on the right you will have yourself a very cool shot. The second is a bit soft for my liking of this particular shot. I think it calls for sharp contrast. For some reason this pic makes me laugh. Thats good, thats good! lol
