The Yellow Flower
Here is a photo I shot of some sort of flower in my yard..(that I later chopped down).
The only PP done was to darken all of the greenery around it due to that fact that I thought that it was taking away from the flower itself.
You are free to edit this if you like, any suggestions?

Re: The Yellow Flower
there's a major lack of contrast and detail in the flower... Do you have other shots?

Re: The Yellow Flower
It appears that your focal point is on the greenery instead of the flower as there is no detail in the flower and its a bit washed out/overexposed.
There are also washed out areas on some of the leaves.
Sometimes when I'm shooting flowers and cannot wait for better light, I position myself to shade the flower and get better exposures.

That sounds like something I will try. I live in the tropics and its ALWAYS sunny here! There are lots of great flowers around though and most of the shots that I take of them seem to be washed out. Since I don't carry a portable studio with me, I like to just take the shot and go and edit later.

Re: The Yellow Flower
If you can be out early morning or late afternoon you might want to try getting them in the 'golden hours' One hour after sunrise to one hour before sunset. The light is much softer then. There's leeway in those times but you'll learn to know when it is good and when it isn't.
Keep shooting.

Re: The Yellow Flower
I'd like to see more detail in the flower too. Great flower though, not centering it might also help. Try having a sharp shot for the flower and blur the background, that would work centered. S
