    Would love some feedback...

Hi all... I am a complete novice playing with an A70 and wide angle adapter. I would appreciate any constructive criticism on what I could do better as far as composition and such. Here are a few shots from yesterday around the lighthouse...

    Thanks

    Dear mud,

Welcome to the forum! It is always great to see new peoples work. Hope you enjoy it here! Now onto the critique...

The first is actually interesting for one paritcular reason. You say you used a wide angle lens? The first is hard to tell that because the view is so expansive that you could almost mistake the curve for the curvature of the earth. Very neat photo in that respect. The line of snow disappearing off to the left, the vast expanse of sand to the right. A good use of negative space. Maybe next time add some more interest to the picture. The second photo is a nice idea, but I would have focused on the lighthouse, not the cattails. Just a personal opinion. The third photo could have been more interesting. Again, some texture, shape, subject, pattern or something of the sort would have made the picture nicer. The fourth photo is a nice little oxymoron. The no diving sign with the icy sea in the background. A good composition.

    Hi mud,

I too welcome you to the forums! I essentially agree with Drew above except on the second photo. I think the first and second photos are fantastic! I like how you focused on the grass and not the lighthouse. I guess that's a personal preference. Could use a bit more light on the grass but hey, it's still a nice shot. The third, not so interesting. It might have been had you found some melting icicles hanging off the wall, which looks like there could have been some right in the center of the photo. The fourth is interesting too. As Drew said, it's a nice little oxymoron.

I look forward to seeing more of your work.

I thought about this, but the "No swimming" sign was right in line with the lighthouse & I believe would have distracted from the shot.

Actually, it is very cold Lake Ontario water to the right & approx 600 yards of snow & ice to the left which is piling up on the shore. Without panning on the beach & residences, it has such an arctic feel.

I agree the third pic is lacking something.. i liked the shapes and good afternoon light. Here is another approach I tried to Photo-chop.

    Re: Would love some feedback...

I very much like the second and last photo. I like the second because it's a unique perspective of a lighthouse. I think that having more DOF in that photo so that the lighthouse was a bit more obvious would have helped a little. I still like it either way.

The last photo is great. No real negative things for me to say about it. Good color, composition, etc.

You did well with the wide angle adapter

Great shots mud. Good colors, and good DOF on all the pics. Great composition too. Though I don't see the necessity of a wide angle lens in all the pics it still turned out great!
