A windchime before and after..

i like the shot, the b&w the most.
i think you should make it a tad darker thought because right now its pretty light

I was trying to make it to where you could see the whole chime and not have it look like a dark blob (which I think it does look like in the first one) but I guess I lightened and dodged it just a little too much..lol

I would have stepped back a bit to take the photo. Too bad part of the wind chime is now cut off. A vertical format may be better? Whatever in the top left upper corner right now also doesn't add much to the photo, imo.

As for the black and white version, it's too low key right now.

I think AgingEyes is right. Really needed to go vertical with this. There's nothing of interest on the right anyway and it wouldn't be chopped off.
You're definitly starting to see stuff since you started here, though. Keep it up.
If you reshoot try to catch some late/early sun on it or another element in the photo.

Although I agree that your format is wrong for the subject I much prefer the color.

The nice warm browns of the wind chime and the cool blue and white of the sky nicely complement each other.

Your B&W is mostly greys likely because the sky tones don't allow the blues and whites to stand out. That is a big reason why B&W film shooters use red or yellow filters when skies are a big part of their images.

The b&w is definatly washed out. I agree with Aging Eyes and Frog, you definatly need a vertical for the windchimes. I like colors in the first shot much better then the b&w.

Oh and maybe try reshooting the picture from the other side so the light captures the wood better. but then youd miss the sky. maybe reshoot the windchimes from the otherside to get the light on the windchimes then cut and paste it onto the picture with the blue backround?
