Re: White Temple - Holga
I like the composition and subject quite a bit.
I am always conflicted about Holga shots, why someone would choose to shoot with a crummy camera is a bit of a quandry but often the results are quite pleasing. I just can't help but wonder if the image would be better if shot through a quality lens.
Still, this is a VERY worthy image.

Hi Herriot,
I see a snake chasing a baby elephant and the phoenixes are calling the police for help. Seriously, iy is good.

I love the contrast of the white temple against the blue sky!

Re: White Temple - Holga
All, glad you liked it, taken with the plastic camera due to the simplicity of a marvellous scene.
My work camera is a 5D & my $3000 lenses and I just really enjoy the release that I can find from composing images and taking a chance with the Holga. Infact, IMO, every photographer should carry at least one. I saw the picture and just enjoy...

I second that thought!
Holga's are just plain fun and using one will make you a better photographer.
The challenges inherent to using such a rudimentary camera will help you compose and think about making photographs, as well as having only 12 shots per roll, you'll really want to make each frame count.
Just the humble opinion of a "Holga Master"
:biggrin5:

While I get what you are saying, I think the unexpected/unplanned/unanticipated effects of shooting with a crappy camera has its appeal. I'm guessing that the effects achieved here would never have come about with a "real" camera, it's so spontaneous and unforeseen. Makes me want to pick up some crappy cameras and see what I can find...

Great shot. The Holga effect suits the subject well.
[Note to self: buy Holga]

Re: White Temple - Holga
Congrats on the featured photo. The Holga shots always keep me grounded when I start getting caught up in some of the 'gear' talk about what I need to get a good photo. - TF

A Holga is a camera.
It's often thought of as a "toy camera", because it's rather rudimentary by today's standards.
It's made mostly of plasctic and has only one shutter speed, the focus scale on the lens has icons rather than a scale with distances and all that.
It's a camera that everyone should have, in my opinion.
Take a look at my website to see what the cameras look like and other examples of Holga photographs.
