    West Side Market
My very first "altercation" - the woman managing this shop was FURIOUS I was taking pictures from across the street and demanded I delete all of them - I politely declined and suggested she call the cops. She eventually backed down

So, was it worth the hassle?

Ha!!! Love it .. and I'm glad you didn't back down. But what do you expect from someone who can't spell 'Accept'.

The colouring scheme isn't exactly my taste, but I admit it suits the subject.

    Cheers

Thisis so garish that I have to love it. It seems a tad soft in some areas, is this because of PP or did it come out of the camera like this?

    Glad you didn't back down.

It was actually kind of comical, she kept demanding I tell her what the photos were going to be used for and insisting I had "NO RIGHT" to take pictures of her store. I told her I didn't intend to sell them and I wasn't going to use them to make her store look bad - the rest is irrelevant and as long as I didn't set foot on her property, she really couldn't demand anything of me. All the while I'm looking at that sign that says "except" and trying not to laugh, which would surely further enrage her.

The store used to be a gas station and is one of the few buildings left that predates the "killer" Hurricane of 1926 that leveled most of SE Florida.

The softness is intentional and a result of PP - two layers, B&W base with Gaussian blur color overlay.

That's a very interesting shot, and the circumstances make it even more so. Did you consider photoshopping out the satellite dish? I think it might have a more period correct look and be a little more timeless without the dish being in the shot.

Great shot, definitely worth the hassle. Is that the woman in there?

Reminds me of my experience shooting the "Meccanic" shop in Hawthorne, NY.

Ah! I absolutely love it! To each his own of course, but I really dig the bold color selection going on. It is so "I'm in the middle of nowhere Florida at some goofy convenience store" in all it's glory. The "except" sign is almost too good to be true LMAO.... and the story of the nutty store owner? Priceless!

    Great picture, I love it!

    Dray,
Here's a clean shot of the woman heading toward me (the black and tan blur in center) to start her conniption fit .

JonW I considered it, but then I'd have so much other crap to remove as well (neons, stop sign, fluorescent lights, etc, etc) just too far to go to get this one "timeless".

thanks for the kind words Lady Camille

Not a bad little spot to photograph. A lot of color here! Looks like an Xmas time shot.

I guess she didn't 'except' your story, but you handled it the right way.

Not to hijack your thread but thought this is a good time to repost this one from Tanzania: Note the spelling. :D

This works well, Jetrim. The blur and the odd mix of colors makes this fascinating at the least. Well composed.
That drives me mad when people get upset over nothing. Its because your standing across the street that she thinks your trying to get these shots without her knowing or something and therefore she feels violated. People get so paranoid when someone has a camera in hand
    Worthwhile
