    Window/Natural Light

Still pretty new to digital photography. Working on my skills with window light and natural light. Took some photos of some friends this weekend. Let me know what you think. I really like the feedback.

The photographs look quite dark to me. They also don't look sharp. How did you photo them? Tripod used or hand-held? What shutter speed? Why crop the left shoulder in the first photo? Why the left side of the photos look to have more room than the right? If you want to, you could improve them in post-processing.

    Re: Window/Natural Light

Shot with the pink shirt is a great environmental portrait with beautiful lighting. It does seem to have a white balance issue though - seems a bit green throughout. Try using the white balance picker in either Lightroom or Adobe Camera raw, and sample one of the mortar joints in the wall behind him toward the right side of the frame near his face.

Blue shirt leans in the other direction, toward magenta, and it's been softened more than I usually would like to see, as the detail in his face has been all but wiped out. Seems the clarity slider was set at or close to -100 (or this was a preset/plug-in). If you want to soften it up, either cut the effect in half in lightroom, or in photoshop put this as a layer at 50% opacity over the original image.

The vignette works well on both images and you've done a great job with the eyes in both, too. Compositionally I think they're both fine. They may be 1/2 a stop underexposed, but not much more than that and I don't really have any issue with that either. Keep at it, you're off to a great start!

The second shot is really nice and the more I look at it the more I enjoy it. Jet has articulated how it might be improved far better than I can but it does not need much more. As it is, I think it looks better now than it would being "perfect"
