    Volvo in Moscow

    Hi all

I've been spending a little time getting up some images for my club competitions.

This one intrigues me a little, not least because it is not a typical 'tourist shot'. It goes to show what you can find if you get just one street away from where all the tourists congregate. Compositionally I find it interesting too on all kinds of levels.

It was taken in Moscow (you can see St Basil's which marks one end of Red Square) in the background.

    What do you think?

    Cheers

Strangley enough, the blues and reds make it work for me. Wonder what this same photo would look like at night with the 100 or so lights I see it has on it.

Mike I really like the composition. The guy leaning into the shot, everything. You might clone the power line upper left cutting thru the cross but not a big issue. That Pentax is going to live forever.LOL

Odd they didn't use their own alphabet, but maybe English is getting popular over there.

It's a decent informative type shot Mike, but artistically it has several flaws, like the warped wide angle effect on the limo and fellow there, the cluttering signs and left shed/building, the chopped sign ..

But as a grab shot, it's very effective with the caption.

I feel it is all a bit too tight and needs some space. It's a pity the limo is cut off (I appreciate it is often not as easy as it seems to get everything you want) as it was almost running parallel to the volvo. The sight of St Basil of disneyland does not help or detract in this case other than of course identifying the location.
I really like though, the idea that the road seems to be blocked to the Limo but free for the volvo to drive through. Is that a bunch of flowers on the bonnet of the Limo; probably heading off to collect and stick another freshly married couple on Red Square.

I have a total lack of respect for anything connected with society, except that which makes the roads safer, the beer stronger, the food cheaper, and the old men and old women warmer in the winter and happier in the summer. Brendan Behan

    Re: Volvo in Moscow

Thanks guys for looking. I think it is one of those images I will have to live with for a while to see if I like it enough. Some of your comments are well taken though. I have removed SOME of the wires that were overlapping the church. I have also skewed the bottom right a little in order to reduce the wide angle effect, especially on the man - actually that works better as a side-effect of skewing was to emphasise the word 'volvo' on the url. Finally I cut a bot off the left in order to reduce the impact of the wall there.

I do like the way the man and the church balance one another in the corners.

Gary: the old Pentax has been twice around the clock now!

Tom: yes it is a little tight - not sure what I can do about that though!

    Cheers

i'm afraid it doesn't really do it for me, sorry. I like the chap and the limo at standstill, but i don't quite see the whole idea behind it, although the composition works ok.
