A view from below

I came across this view this weekend... I would like to know what would make this more interesting. For me I could look up for a while but I couldn't figure out how to capture that feeling. Any thoughts?

I've tried many times to capture little scenes like this in the mountains of Colorado, Wyoming and Idaho but it's harder than it looks. What I didn't often realize in my excitement of shooting a really cool tree or rock overhang or whatever, was that there was often something close-in to my subject which was distracting.

In this case, it's the pine tree. Were that tree not there and you zoomed in a bit more on the main subject in question, framing it to the right, I think you'd have the shot. As it is, the details of the main tree are not large enough relative to the frame, and the pine tree pulls your eye in the wrong direction.

All right then. Obviously a closer crop does not have precisely the same effect as being zoomed in via the lens, but you get the idea... hope this helps some.
