    VertiSquirrel!

heh funny name. Spotted him in the back yard when taking pics of bees.

    EXIF:

    Focal Length: 400mm
    Aperture: F/8
    ISO: 800
    Shutter Speed: 1/2500th

What could I do to bring out more detail in the squirrel's fur? The hairs seem slightly blended together.
    Thanks!
    -Mike

I bet your thoughts are the same as mine. You are tempted to crop out that fence. I think maybe rotating it a little arbitary ccw would help straighten the tree although I don't think that's as importrant as getting rid of that distracting fence.
You have done it once again! Fantastic detail and clarity. Another shot of yours I would LOVE on my wall!

    Woo! :-)

Actually no, I think I like the fence. Never thought about removing it. I'll straighten the tree in my copy, but I dont think it needs to be reposted for such a small correction.

    Thanks!

    Re: VertiSquirrel!

    I like this shot.

As far as bringing out the little fellow's fur, it appears that perhaps your camera front focused a bit on the tree to the right. I may be wrong, but it looks sharper than the squirrel does. I don't know about D-Rebels, but my 20D front focuses on occasion, and this is what it looks like.

Otherwise, great image. I too like the fence along the bottom. It helps to frame the subject. One improvement I may try is to clone out the background branches that are "growing" out of Verti's head.

    Re: VertiSquirrel!

ok. Heres a corrected version of straightening, and cloning branches.

Hope thats a bit better. I dont like down by his whiskers though. A bit blurry

    Thanks for the complements!

I like it as is. Great DOF and love how the squirel is quite large in the frame. As far as getting details from the fur, you could do that with a unsharp mask.

    Re: VertiSquirrel!

I did apply unsharp mask. 300% and .3

give it a shot if you want. Thats the most acceptable detail I can get.
