    Untitled

Blah. That's what i think of it even though it appeals to me on some kind of level in my brain. Don't know what to think. is it a blah or is something there? be honest. (i know you always are, but be a bit more brutally honest)

    Re: Untitled

I wouldn't say "blah." There seems to be some very interesting contrast going on with the skin. It almost looks like the tonal contrast filter was used from color efex pro, but either way I think it works. I don't really like how dirty the sand is, and would be interested to see it w/o the umbrella (good luck cloning that out).

I like Leel's composition and the colors in the original version best but here is a quick Photoshop job of what it would look like without the umbrella. I vote for the original, Jeff

Great shot, I like the original. Plus there is considerable blurriness on the "fixed" version.

I don't know... I like it. It really reminds me of one of Skyshaper's images... in terms of the composition and the processing.

What don't you like about it?

    thanks n8

Jeff, good job on the cloning. i can see a bit of misplaced blues but good job nevertheless. also, i don't think this one works without the umbrella either.

    thanks draper.

Seth, not sure. I think it might be a bit of a boring shot otherwise. the thing that i shot for was the fact that the umbrella was on a different plain than the person. kind of like in the shade but not really, and i don't think that translated very well in the photograph. when i was shooting it, it looked nicer in person. thanks man.

I did the edit quick in about two minutes or less just to see what it would look like and wasn't intended as a final version, just something fast to see what it would look like, Jeff

    Re: Untitled

    Hmm.

I am not sure here Liban. The umbrella is dead centered and almost intersecting the kid and seems to block the viewer. The kid looking also away presents a distant feeling. That's sometimes Ok, depending on how it all plays out. Overall though, the pic has a coldish feeling for the reasons described above, and also because it has a cold color tone (blue).

On the positive side, it does have a human element about it that makes it interesting in some ways!

Without the umbrella, in my opinion, it needs more ocean and less sand.

    Re: Untitled

Jeff, yeah I figured  especially with the size of photo you were working wtih.

    GB, thanks.

pthorton, thanks. it's funny, i think without the umbrella it loses everything it's supposed to be lol. it becomes a generic shot of a kid playing with water. then again, maybe it's just that to begin with.

    Re: Untitled

I like both, wouldn't have guessed there was an umbrella there if you didn't show the original. Very inviting shot for a travel magazine.
    Shootme...
