An attempt at shooting an iris

I've just stared to try and take flower shots. I've got a close up lense for Christmas, and this is my first time getting to use it now that things are blooming. Let me know what you think. I used a flash to brighten the image a little. The sun was setting, so the lighting was not good.

The image really looks like it would benefit from a much tighter crop. The flower is the only object of interest, so maybe it should fill the frame.

Agreed. I didn't do any processing of the image yet. I'm trying to get the photos to come out better before I feel the post processing time would be worth it. I'll play around with the crop, though. Thanks.

I think you're off to a good start. One suggestion I would make is to change your perspective. Get lower and shoot at a different angle. When you shoot down on a flower, to me, it looks like any other flower I would see if I was out walking around. By getting low, or shooting at a different angle, you will give the viewer a different view.

I think your exposre looks good for this photo, and I like the purple and green colors together. I find the ground takes away from the nice colors in the rest of the photo. By getting low, and shooting up, or level with the flower, you could avoid the ground.

That's a good idea. If the flower is still blooming today, I'll give that a shot. It will be interesting to try with this flower inches off of the ground. Hahahaha.

hahah, I know exactly what you're talking about!! This is the very reason I have had an angle viewer on my wish list for a long time. I still haven't made the purchase yet tho.

My camera has a built in angle viewer, so I'll have to try that out. Good idea. I forget to use it sometimes.
